There are four in the Party Series of linocuts. Each is distinct and stands alone, yet the series also works together. In content they are celebratory – portrayals of stylish parties, whether cocktail or marquee, street or held in the park. But in each there are narratives of attraction and counter-attraction, and just as at an actual party the viewer is drawn first to this interaction and then to that, to this group and then to the other. As celebratory and vibrant portrayals of The Place To Be, they are recognised as amongst Shephard’s most complex and accomplished of works.
