Avocets have slender upcurved bills for sweeping water or wet mud in pursuit of their food, whereas stilts have straighter, needle shaped bills. In this linocut study the birds are in their habitat, perched on muddy spits of land amidst the sparkling blue of shallow, eddying waters.
