The full title of this print is ‘The Blue Boat pulled up on Aldeburgh beach.’ Aldeburgh has long been known for its shingle beach, fishermen’s huts and small fishing boats. And this is what is depicted here: it is the end of day, the fisherman is collecting his nets, the seagulls are prospecting for that last fish, and a huge expanse of pink evening sky forms a backwash in this most attractive of Bernard Cheese’s prints.
