Watercolour with pen and ink, originally for ‘This is London’ (1959). Compare this with Cyril Power’s ‘Tube Train’: in each we find particularized figures, but here we have the besuited gent; the businessman in top hat perusing the Telegraph; the Sikh in his turban and the bespectacled man clinging to the handle above his head. Here, too, the papers are used to good effect to form blocks of geometric shapes which extend down the perspectival lines of the carriage. With its graphic strength and vibrancy of colours, this is many people’s favourite Sasek print. Size: 34.0 x 31.0; paper: 50.0 x 43.0cm Format: Giclée print, Limited Edition (1/850) on 310gms thick, 100% cotton rag. Hand-numbered and hand-embossed.
