14th Street Subway by Miroslav Sasek watercolour and pen and ink, originally for ‘This is New York’ (1960). 14th Street Subway is located at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and 14th Street, underneath Union Square in Manhattan. The station itself is a listed building (on the Register of Historic Places), but here we stand on the platform itself, our choice, so graphically portrayed, between Up Town Express and Up Town Local. But it is the retro-charm of the colours, too, which is so attractive in this print.
