Michaelmas By Sybil Andrews Linocut (1937). Original size: 30.9 x 23.0cm. Work is often the subject of portrayal for Grosvenor School artists (see Cyril Power and Lill Tshudi particularly) but the Grosvenor School often emphasized the anonymity of their labouring figures. There’s a stylisation of form here, and no clear individuality in the depiction of the two workers, but this is deliberate. The Grosvenor School had strong democratic ideals, and an anonymity of portrayal symbolises the kind of egalitarian universality in which these artists believed. Size: Image: 36.0 x 27.0; paper 49.0 x 39.0cm Format: Giclée print, Limited Edition (1/850) on 310gms thick, 100% cotton rag. Hand-numbered and hand-embossed.
