Now no longer published, The Evening News was, until the 1980’s, the London paper with the largest sales figures. Here, an advertiser’s deliberate placement, the paper is coupled with the iconic London double-decker. But the viewpoint is deliberate in this linocut too. The viewer sees the view as if framed through the window of an adjacent double-decker, so the bottom, top and sides are occluded by the frame of the window through which the image is seen. This viewpoint turns an everyday scene into a poignant moment, the kind of point in time we all experience, but perhaps not always notice.
