Watercolour (1941). As with so many works by Ravilious, there’s a leading path, roadway or, as in this case, a waterway, taking the eye to central picture and depicting two figures, a man and a woman. On either side of the bank pines and conifers grow, and above, the blue of an English sky can be seen. This is Ravilious on a dapple shaded day, depicting the delights of a Sunday afternoon on the river.
